The plastering is finished, the electrics signed off, walls are being painted, carpets and the furniture ordered. We will soon be moving back into the re-built Heritage Hub.
To make the move as smooth as possible and so all staff are available to help get everything back into place the Archives will close for two weeks from 4.30pm Thursday 8th March. We will re-open at 9am on Tuesday 27 March.
Please bear with us whilst we are closed and the move back happens. We hope you will think this small disruption will be well worth it when you see the beautiful, light, airy and modern space available from Tuesday 27 March.
Phase two of the new build will involve the Frith Centre being demolished and a new training centre being built. Until this is complete and the new entrance has been built visitors to the Archives should use the old school entrance at the front of the building. We will be installing a temporary ramp while this entrance is in use – so don’t worry about the steps up to the door.
Building will continue and parking will still be very restricted. Only Blue Badge holders are able to park on site. There are car parks nearby at Hare Lane and Great Western road – or consider using the bus or train for your visit.
Work has already begun on the new entrance and from the pictures below it is possible to see its new position.
The closure period will also allow us the opportunity to service the mobile shelving that houses the millions of documents held in the archives. As you might imagine, it’s not an easy job to do while we’re open to the public.
And a reminder that if you are able to visit on or after the 27th March, you will still need to order in advance any documents you’d like to see. Do please give us as much notice as you can so that we can make sure we’re all ready for you.
We look forward to seeing you in the new Heritage Hub on the 27th March!
